Infinite Blue - 2021 Wrap Up

Happy holidays, everyone! 2021 seems to have gone by very fast, and we’re already coming up on almost a year of Infinite Blue being in development. Here’s a wrap up on everything we’ve accomplished so far, and what to look forward to in 2022!

Writing

Demo: The demo script (separate from the main script) is written and very close to being polished. It can currently be played through in-game, and will only need a few minor tweaks.

Main game: The script for the main game is written, however, coming in at around 300k words, it will still take some time to be edited. The common route is the closest to being done, with Tobias’s coming in second. His route is currently being worked on and is coming together nicely. Rory’s will need the most work, as his story has been changed numerous times. He will need a rewrite. Everyone else will only need a few additions and changes. Once the editing for the main six is done, a 7th route will be written. We don’t know if this 7th route will be available upon release of the game, or later.

Art

CGs: We have 12 CGs done, 6 of which will only be found in the demo. Up next, our artist will be working on key artwork that features all six characters.



Sprites: The main characters have their sprites finished, with work currently being done for the side characters. It’s been fun sending their respective VA’s progress updates and getting their feedback :)



Backgrounds: 16/20 backgrounds are complete. The last few are for Rory, who as mentioned, has had his story changed a few times. Once his story is solidified, those last four will be ordered. We’re hoping to include one additional background per route, if budget permits



UI: We have a modern, sleek UI we can’t wait for you to see, with elements still being added to make it as efficient and intuitive as possible.



Audio/Music

Audio/Music :Our composers will have seven beautiful tracks ready to go for the demo, with more to come for the main game. They will also be working on custom sound effects for tapping around the UI to enhance the user experience, as well as a main song for the trailer.

Voice acting: We held a successful casting call with over 400 auditions and cast 13/18 characters. The lines are in for the demo, and are currently being programmed in.

Programming

Our programmer has made wonderful progress with the demo. The messenger system is working smoothly, with the real-time system, branching chats, CG gallery, and other features already implemented. This will set the framework and make programming much easier for the main game.



Marketing

We finally have our newsletter and website up! We plan to keep the website updated, and send newsletter campaigns at least once a month. We will also continue posting on Twitter once or twice a week, with regular Tumblr updates.

2022 Goals

- Demo release: This is the big goal! Once all of the elements come together for the demo, we’ll need to do QA and make sure it’s up to par for release. We’re aiming for early 2022.
- Kickstarter: We will be doing a Kickstarter for Infinite Blue, and are also looking at early 2022 for this. More info coming later!
- More frequent Tumblr posts: Our Tumblr posts are a bit sporadic, so we’re hoping to get on a schedule with posting, especially since posts can be much longer than a tweet :)
- Second casting call: There’s five characters left to cast. This will be for the female and non-binary characters of IB.
- Production start on game #2: There will be a point in which the writing for our second game can begin. But, have no worries, the majority of time and resources will be going towards Infinite Blue until its release.
